Stamp Out Hunger
Western New York will join the nation on Saturday, May 10, for the 22nd Annual Letter Carriers’ Stamp Out Hunger National Food Drive. Donors are asked to place unopened, non-perishable items next to their mailbox before their letter carrier delivers the mail on Saturday, May 10. The letter carriers will collect the food donations as they deliver the mail along their routes. You should receive a postcard in the mail reminding you of the food drive.
On May 10, 2013, letter carriers across the country will be collecting food for families in need.
It’s easy to help:
1. Collect and bag non-perishable* food items.
2. Place by mailbox for letter carrier to deliver to a local food bank or pantry.
*Donate items like canned meats, fish, soup, juice, vegetables, pasta, cereal and rice. Please do not include items that have expired or are in glass containers. We've got more information on the list of items you can donate for this event.
Last year the annual food drive of the National Association of Letter Carriers collected more than 74 million pounds of food to help restock food banks, pantries and shelters around the country—an impressive result rendered all the more necessary by the struggling economy and the multiple recent natural disasters.
"This demonstrates in clear fashion the value of the unique postal network, which goes to 151 million addresses six days a week," NALC President Fredric Rolando said. "It also shows the remarkable connection between letter carriers and the communities they serve—a bond that serves the nation well."
We'd like to thank all the postal carriers for their part in making this event a great success every year.
