Volunteer at the Food Bank of Western New York to help those in need of one of life’s most necessary commodities--food.

This can be filled in your browser/.pdf viewer and/or saved to your computer. Completed forms must be emailed or mailed in before your scheduled volunteer shift. Please allow up to 2 weeks for your volunteer application to process.

Volunteers are essential at all levels of food bank operations, from sorting and repackaging food to helping at fundraising events.
Individuals and groups are welcome. All opportunities have specific age and skill requirements, and require advance registration.

Volunteers assist in the following positions:


Food Sorting Assistant
(weekdays & Saturdays, various times)
Volunteers will be asked to sort through non-perishable food donations and package them in boxes based on the designated standards for the donation type. Volunteers may be required to lift small packages (up to 35-50lbs.), should have good organizational skills and must be at least 16 years of age. Volunteers will be working in a warehouse and should dress comfortably, however closed toe shoes are required in the warehouse at all times.

Office Assistant
(weekdays, various times): assists with clerical tasks.

Special Event Volunteer
(various times): event opportunities typically take place during the evenings or on weekends. The location and volunteer position is specific to each event. Please view our upcoming events page to learn more about our upcoming events and our volunteer needs!

Cooking Class Assistant
(weekdays, various times) : Volunteers will be asked to assist in our cooking classes for children and adults. Tasks include: food preparation, instructional assistance, clean up etc. Cooking classes take place at the Food Bank of WNY or at an off-site location.

Group Volunteer Opportunities
(weekdays & Saturdays, various times) : Scheduled at least a month in advance. The Food Bank of WNY can accommodate up to 10 individuals for a two hour time slot, but may make considerations for larger groups depending on the tasks available.

Garden Project Assistant
(seasonal, Thursday afternoons & Saturday mornings): From late April – September, we are in need of volunteers to assist in our on-site Garden Project. In addition to sharing or gaining knowledge about gardening and nutrition, you will enjoy the satisfaction of being part of a team and participating in a community activity. All produce grown in the garden is donated to local food pantries or used in the nutrition education programs at the Food Bank. Volunteers help with the upkeep of the garden and may include tasks such as weeding, mulching, clean-up and harvesting. Volunteers also help with general clean-up around the grounds of the Food Bank.

Volunteer shifts are scheduled by appointment only, we cannot accommodate walk-ins.
We do accept Court-Appointed Volunteers. Volunteers must contact Jen Hayes at 935-6717, prior to scheduling any volunteer shifts.
