FeedMore WNY is investing in the future by centralizing its operations to a new facility in the Town of Hamburg!

the problem

Due to a rapid increase in food insecurity among Western New York residents, current FeedMore WNY facilities are operating beyond their capacity to meet the service needs of the region.

the solution

To continue expanding regional food programs and providing its current services, FeedMore WNY will build a 197,700 square-foot facility to centralize its regional operations on a 74-acre site in the Town of Hamburg.

the need

After reaching nearly two-thirds of its fundraising goal to establish a permanent home for the organization, FeedMore WNY is kicking off the public phase of its campaign and inviting the community to participate in this critical project.

New York EBT system to be unavailable during update, vendor conversion

New York State Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance (OTDA) has announced that New York’s Electronic Benefits Transfer (EBT) system will be unavailable on Sunday, May 19, 2024, from 12:01 a.m. until 11 a.m.

The duration of the outage could be longer or shorter than expected. During this time, New York’s EBT system will convert to a new EBT vendor.

Throughout the outage, SNAP EBT access for food purchases will not be available. The EBT customer service helpline, mobile app, online client portal, and retailer helpline will also be unavailable.

After the transition, SNAP participants can use their EBT cards as usual, and EBT cards, PINs, and the EBT customer service helpline phone number will remain the same.

Following this transition, the ConnectEBT app and ConnectEBT online client portal will no longer be in use for EBT cardholders. Cardholders will need to download or access the new ebtEDGE app and client portal, which will allow cardholders to check transactions and deposits, freeze and unfreeze their card, and change their PIN.

Information on the new ebtEDGE app and website will be posted on the ODTA webpage when it is available.

Older Americans Month calls attention to importance of social connections

Older Americans Month, which was first held in 1963, is recognized annually in May. This year’s theme is “Powered by Connection,” which acknowledges the profound impact that meaningful relationships and social connections have on our health and well-being.

Meals on Wheels and Feeding America’s nationwide network of hunger relief organizations support the campaign’s theme by raising awareness and showing support for the millions of seniors across the country who seek food assistance.

Through social connections, providing safety checks and delivering nutritious meals, older adults can maintain better health outcomes.
